A Family Legacy
Petrellas Italian Cafe is named in honor of Premetta and Dominick Petrella. Both were born in Italy and immigrated to the United States, arriving in New York around 1910. Their paths later brought them to Birmingham, Alabama, where they met at a restaurant owned by Premetta's mother.
After marrying, they settled in Pensacola sometime before 1930. Premetta established Pete's Fish Market on T Street, while Dominick worked for the Spearman Brewery, managing the ice house.
Dominick Petrella was born in Naples, Italy, in 1888 and died in Pensacola in 1965. Premetta Petrella was born in Pisa, Italy, in 1904 and died in Pensacola in 1969.
Their story of family, hard work and Italian heritage lives on through the name Petrellas Italian Cafe.
